Required Ice Hockey Gear - The 13 Pieces of Equipment You Can’t Live Without

Written By:  on October 26, 2009 9 Comments

So, you want to play ice hockey (or your son or daughter), but you're not sure where to start. The first step will be buying hockey equipment. This article goes beyond the basic requirements for the hockey equipment needed to maintain on the ice.

Hockey Skates: Skating is the foundation for the game of hockey. If you do not skate, you can not play. Therefore, it is important that the best skates you can afford to get. Make sure you havethem properly sharpened before you take the ice. You can buy new or used skates. Either is fine. Just remember that you want to buy skates that are about one size smaller than your shoe size.
Shin Guards, Shin Pads: There are two types of standard shin guards. One thing that a seat belt, which has around your leg and velcro closures go to the other side of the pad. Or the guy who has no belts, and requires that use hockey tape to keep it secure on your leg. It isa matter of personal taste. These are fine either new or used.
Hockey Pants or Breeze: This is a pretty basic element. The better lines have a good support for the coccyx and thighs. These are fine either new or used. Some of the species will keep braces in order to have the pants, while others will have a tie at the waist to secure them. It's just a matter of what you want.
Chest protector or Shoulder Pads: For young children (mites) by Squirts are mid-range shoulder padsFine. But once you are at a level that allows the body check, you'll pads with a lot of support at the shoulders and chest like. This is not scrimp an item that you want to. Buy the highest quality pads you can afford. New or used is OK. To verify the integrity of the shoulder and chest pads used on any consideration you have.
Hockey Jock (shorts with built-in jock): This is pretty self-explanatory. There are two types of jocks forhockey. The old school type (when that was all they had) and the new type of hockey shorts with the built-in slot for the jock to slip in. This is a matter of preference. Obviously, you’re going to want to buy this item new.
Mouth Guard (to protect your brain): A lot of people think the mouth guard is just to protect your teeth. While it does provide protection for the teeth, the main function of the mouth guard is to prevent a jarring hit to your brain. Never skimp on the Mouthguards. Get a Shock Doctor, or you have your dentist recommend a good orthodontist, custom one for you may have made.
Neck Guard (optional) with most clubs: This is an optional item in most leagues is the neck protection becoming more and more popular due to the repetition of the accident, NHL, which shows what can happen when you take up a skate, to hold around the neck. It is frightening enough to reconsider the hardcore old-school hockey player to wear a neck protection.
Elbow Pads: While the children are still small, mid-range of elbow pads are in order. But, as they move in Peewee hockey (and higher) you will want to put them in a quality pair of elbow pads. Make sure they are large enough to cover the entire elbow, and part of the forearm. These are fine to purchase new or used.
Hockey Helmet: This is a point that I do not recommend buying used. Helmets have a lot of abuse in the upper levels of the game and you never know how has taken many hits a helmet. So, whatever you buy this product again. You can never pay too close attention to the protection of your head.
Hockey Gloves: The hockey glove was like a great pair of winter gloves feel () a little loose. The palm is made of soft leather and the fingers will be made a little stiffer. They are beautiful to buy either new or used, but ensure that the palms are not carried through (as is often the case) for most players. Otherwise, you can get sent to the> Ice cream from the ref until you fix it.
Hockey Stick: This is a device that could give dozens of articles, too. It is a wooden stick, a composite stick, and a two-floor. Those who are loyal to any kind of love their hives. If you are just starting to walk with a wooden stick. It is cheaper and brings you get into the game without a big cash layout. Also for children there is virtually no benefit for an expensive graphite or composite stick. You do not have the physical strength to even use them correctly. If you have a left-handed player, and are not sure in which direction they shoot - go with a straight blade. Within a short time you will be, which way to shoot them, of course, be seen. It is not uncommon for left-handers to the right (or vice versa).
Hockey Jersey (usually) by the team: There is an element that you do not look likely. Teams usually offer the jerseys (although you have to pay for it).
Hockey Socks (also generally available through the team: Also another element of your team will keep you for a fee. Your skates in good condition, always on your socks before your skates. One might think that people would instinctively know that but they do not do it. "Each season I see children with their shredded socks from runners.

The above is just basic hockey equipment information to help you get started. Hockey is the greatest sport in the world and itbrings families together like no sport I've ever seen. My son starts his ninth year of travel hockey this season, and it has never lost its charm to us.
